trusting the medicine
“Be smarter every day by listening to your intuition, looking at the world with your forehead. Jump, dance, sing, so that you live happier. Heal yourself, with beautiful love and always remember… You are the medicine.” -Maria Sabina
The idea that what we seek externally is often found within ourselves is a profound one. It suggests that while external resources such as treatment, therapeutic practices, or medicine can be crucial in our healing journey, the ultimate responsibility for healing lies within us. This concept is not to spiritually bypass anyone out of getting the help they need, however, how deeply we heal and grow depends largely on our willingness and commitment to engage with that help. It requires introspection, self-awareness, and a proactive effort to work through our shadows and transform ourselves. Ultimately, healing is a collaborative effort between the divine and method. We can only receive healing as deeply as we are willing to heal ourselves.
I often tell this to my clients working with plant medicine: psychedelics are not a fast track to enlightenment or recovery. Your commitment, intention, and willingness to integrate is a formed relationship with you and your healing.
And what do all relationships need? Trust.
This is a great time to get familiar with your relationship to trust. How do you trust others? How do you trust yourself? Can you trust the medicine and your commitment to growth?
Fear can be a natural side effect in the preparation phase, especially if unfamiliar. How can you make space for that fear? How can your inner healing wisdom transmute that fear into trust?
How deep can you trust the medicine?
Our ego loves to play tricks on us and hold on to what is comfortable, our sense of knowing. A psychedelic journey is entering the unknown. Plant Medicines are ancient teachers embedded with the earth’s wisdom and mystery. The medicine will give you what you need, show you what you need to see, every single time. It’s up to you what you do and seek with that information.
As always, it’s crucial to psychedelically explore in a safe set/setting with trusted support.
